"Carl the Dog", 8x10" pastel on paper by Annie Dash Studios
Carl is one of the adorable neighborhood dogs who was walking with his owner the morning my children started school this year. I happened to have my camera with me for their first day of school photos, and I asked if I could photograph him. His owner graciously accepted, for which I am so grateful.
This sweet Cavapoo was very excited to meet me and eager to see my camera. Here's a photo I took of him:

For this piece, I used PanPastels to produce a painterly look for the underpainting of the fur and features, then added Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils for all the detail work. I most especially enjoyed re-creating Carl's soulful eyes in pastel.
