“Pumpkin”, 8×10″ pastel on paper by Annie Dash Studios
A special dog can be an amazing companion, and my beloved pug, Pumpkin, was no exception. Pumpkin was the sweet and gentle pug that my husband and I adopted before we had children. A rescue dog, she endured a difficult early life but never had an ounce of aggression toward anyone or any other animals. We are thankful she was able to have many good years with us.
This was one of the photos that I took of Pumpkin many years ago. I felt that it perfectly captured her personality, and it was my selection as the reference photo for this pastel piece.

For this piece, I used PanPastels to produce a painterly look for the underpainting of the fur and features, then added Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils for all the detail work.
