Home is where our story begins.” – Annie Danielson

For generations, this beautiful 150-year-old farmhouse has been a haven of love, joy, and peace shared by the Montgomery family. It was truly an honor to paint this watercolor portrait of their family home, and I sought to convey the warmth and hospitality that this enchanting home exudes. May their family bless the walls of this special place for many generations to come. A million thanks to Mandi Montgomery Bieda for trusting me to capture her family’s home!

The process for creating this work began with a photograph; I visited the home on a bright, clear morning and photographed it. I edited out a telephone pole in the digital image; it’s not a perfect photo but gave me the information I needed to create the digital drawing, which was the next step.

I transfered the digital drawing to create preliminary watercolor work that allowed me to establish the color palette and style of the piece.

Once my client reviewed the materials and approved the concept, I moved forward to create the finished work in watercolor on Aquabord, a sturdy watercolor panel that provides a stronger work surface than watercolor paper. As always, I worked in many layers to achieve depth and luminosity for the final work.

This home is such a treasure — it reminds me of a home from L.M. Montgomery’s “Anne of Green Gables” series, one of my favorite works of all time.

I absolutely loved creating this piece and hope the Montgomery family enjoys it in great health and good cheer for many years to come!
